SFGMCI QUEER CULTURE GALLERY
SFGMCI’s online gallery is promoting the talents of local artists from the San Francisco queer community. We are featuring visual and written works of creative art that are somehow related to commenting on, celebrating and/or fostering a strong sense of gay men’s community. We are looking for submissions that reflect the cultural and creative diversity of every corner of our community.

Accepted artists will be able to have one piece of visual or written work showcased on the SFGMCI website. Artists will be credited by name, type of media and title of the piece. Artists will be asked to submit a brief description of how the work relates to the gay men’s community and the mission of the SFGMCI. Each artist will get a link to his personal website or email address.

JEFF COMPASSO
Photographer
There’s no better way than spending my waking hours by surrounding myself with beauty, playing with that beauty, and creating something new to share with the world! Photography is a wonderful creative outlet for my artistic expression. It allows me to capture the beauty I see in the world around me everyday and make it my own. Working with nude models can be both challenging and rewarding. It is very rewarding to me to be able to capture a beautiful shot of someone and see their elated reaction to the print. It’s this beauty and elation that I want to share with my community.

BUZZ BENSE
Fairy Heart Circle

These photographs were taken in the mid-eighties at two Radical Fairy gatherings.  I think these photos show a different beauty of men, a beauty not based on buffed, ripped and muscled.

One of the fairy traditions is to meet in Heart Circle, where deep feelings and experiences can be shared.  This is a way men can be together, and be open hearted, in a way we rarely have in our greater society.  Other organizations, like the Billy Club have adopted this Fairy tradition.
